ARH Announces Lease of Knox County Hospital
Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) announced today it will lease the Knox County Hospital in Barbourville, Ky., and will begin operations on December 1.
The 25-bed Knox County Hospital will operate under the new name, Barbourville ARH Hospital, and will become the 11th member of the ARH system, which is consistently recognized for medical excellence and covers communities in southeastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia.
ARH offers a wide-range of primary and specialty care services through its network of health facilities and partnerships with other health systems, virtually eliminating residents’ need to leave the area for care.
“As a member of the ARH system, Barbourville ARH Hospital will continue to provide its tradition of quality care to the residents of Knox and surrounding counties,” said ARH President and CEO Joe Grossman. “The hospital and the communities it serves will also benefit from ARH’s longstanding partnerships with other elite healthcare providers such as the renowned UK HealthCare for many advanced specialty services residents may previously have had to leave the area to access.”
“Providing around $1 million in community benefits each year, ARH is proud to be a strong community partner, and is excited to now have such an important presence in serving the Knox County community,” Grossman added.
ARH is a not-for-profit health system operating 11 hospitals in Barbourville, Hazard, Harlan, Hyden, McDowell, Middlesboro, West Liberty, Whitesburg and South Williamson, Ky and Beckley and Hinton, WV, as well as multi-specialty physician practices, home health agencies, home medical equipment stores and retail pharmacies. ARH employs nearly 5,000 people with an annual payroll and benefits of $297 million generated into our local economies. ARH also has a network of more than 600 active and courtesy medical staff members. ARH is the largest provider of care and single largest employer in southeastern Kentucky and the third largest private employer in southern West Virginia, and is consistently recognized for its medical excellence.
