ARH Disaster Relief Center (DRC) Continues to Support Flood Victims
November 6th, 2023,
Nearly a year and a half after the 2022 floods devastated much of Eastern Kentucky, Appalachian Regional Healthcare’s Disaster Relief Center (DRC) is still working with flood victims to provide much needed resources as they continue to rebuild.
“The rebuilding continues for many affected by the floods, and we remain committed to standing beside each victim, and we look forward to a future where every eastern Kentuckian that was affected can have access to what they need to get back on their feet,” shared ARH Foundation Executive Director Angela Bailey.
The Disaster Relief Center was a part of the initial flood relief efforts initiated by ARH and the ARH Foundation in response to the unprecedented 2022 floods. Six months after the flood, the ARH Foundation began working with the Long-Term Recovery Groups (LTRG) in each of the impacted counties. This partnership helped bridge connections between the victims and the case managers to help provide access to the resources they needed.
As of the one-year anniversary in July 2023, the ARH Foundation has dispersed more than $1.5 million in funds to those affected by the floods. Now, as of November 2023, the ARH Foundation and ARH are still actively working with long-term recovery groups (LTRG) to provide items such as dishwashers, dryers, washing machines, mattresses, and other items to victims.
Needs continue to arise, and the ARH Foundation is actively working to address those needs via the Disaster Relief Center. The continuing needs of victims, as well as the continuing need for the DRC is reevaluated and the DRC will remain open as long as the needs for relief exist.
“We are proud that through the generosity of donors from across the country and partnerships with other area relief groups, we have been able to help thousands of flood victims with supplies at our distribution centers and financial assistance through our ARH Foundation Flood Relief Fund,” said ARH President and CEO Hollie Phillips. “ARH remains committed to caring for the greater good of the communities it serves. And as eastern Kentucky rebuilds for years to come, ARH will always be there to help.”
