Jay Shoffner, ARH Foundation Board Member, is an Eastern Kentucky native that takes much pride in his roots and looks for ways to improve and give back to the region he loves. Professionally, he is a local businessman and Restaurant Operator. He has been married to Kelly Shoffner, a Harlan native, for 37 years and they share two adult daughters, Madison and Mallory, 3 grandchildren, and 2 more grandchildren on the way.
“I’ve had the honor and pleasure of serving ARH in various capacities for over 20 years–from Board Member to Board Chair, to Foundation Board Member to Foundation Board Chair,” Jay shared. “We all get overwhelmed with demands on our time or requests for community service and I have always been active within my community, but what I’ve learned over the years is, I love ARH, the ARH Foundation, and the people that work here,” he continued.
Jay has been instrumental in his work with ARH and the ARH Foundation for Healthier Communities Board, and he is always willing to assist with Foundation community initiatives.
“The ARH Foundation is truly local. The money stays here, and the gifts, resources, and programming are returned to the area at a local level,” shares Jay.
When Jay gets a chance to enjoy his free time, he enjoys reading books by his favorite author, James Patterson, and enjoying a date night with his wife Kelly.
“I’ll never retire, I’ll continue to have business interest, but I do hope to spend more time on community and charitable activities,” Shoffner said.
As we approach Fall, Jay’s favorite season, he’s looking forward to enjoying Keeneland and taking in some football games. He’s also looking ahead to what he hopes is an exciting basketball season.
“So many people want to help but don’t know where or how to start, the ARH Foundation provides an organization and infrastructure for people that wish to give back but don’t know exactly how,” Jay says. “The foundation has provided me an outlet for that desire,” he continued.
The ARH Foundation for Healthier Communities is grateful for Jay and our Board Members that help to ensure that we are always working toward our mission of furthering healthcare, education, and community involvement in Appalachia.
