March 25, 2024 – Shirley Campbell has served as the Regional Volunteer Coordinator for the past nine and a half years. She leads the volunteer programs for Hazard ARH, McDowell ARH, and Mary Breckinridge ARH. In her role, she also serves as the Hazard ARH Gift Shop Manager. She also collaborates with other ARH gift shops.
As a Volunteer Coordinator, Shirley oversees every aspect of the volunteer program at Hazard ARH. “During my years in this position, I’ve found and become a part of a huge family,” says Shirley. “The volunteers treat me as if I am one of their children or a sister, and the love they show me is unbelievable,” she continued.
Shirley is dedicated to her position and continuous improvement; developing a Volunteer Orientation Handbook to ensure that volunteers are trained in and follow all the policies and procedures that have been established by ARH.
Always looking for ways to serve, Shirley helped develop the Cuddler Program, which utilizes volunteers to give comfort to the NAS babies at Hazard ARH. Shirley helped write the policy for this position and was part of determining the criteria that each Cuddler would follow.
Shirley’s volunteer program has funded numerous projects here at Hazard such as a Cuddle Cot for the nursery, diaper bags for new mothers, wheelchairs for several departments, expansions to the hospital including the Joe Craft Tower, teddy bears for pediatric patients, donations to the Cancer Center for gas cards for their patients, and much more.
A proud Grandmother, Shirley says her grandchildren are the center of her universe. In her free time, she enjoys reading, riding her motorcycle, and riding horses.
To her role, Shirley brings years of experience in customer service, 10 years of experience in volunteerism prior to her current position, years of experience in managing people and projects, and a life filled with helping others attain their goals.
Shirley shared, “I believe that being the Volunteer Coordinator and the Manager of the Hazard Gift Shop has provided me with an opportunity to serve God in a way I’ve never had before.” Continuously working to improve and grow as a professional and person, Shirley states, “I take advantage of every opportunity to learn more about my occupation that ARH gives me, and I enjoy doing so.”
