March 25, 2024 -Growing up in Eastern Kentucky, Whittney Allen is proud of her Appalachian roots and shares that she can’t imagine growing up anywhere else. She also considers herself lucky to have been raised by and surrounded by strong, resilient women.
“I have been very fortunate to grow up surrounded by strong, passionate, and hardworking women,” said Whittney Allen, Director of ARH Foundation Marketing and Communications. “My mother has worked for over 30 years as a nurse and I will always give her the credit for making me the person that I am and for helping me achieve my goals,” continued Allen.
Whittney is a proud alumnus of Morehead State University (AASN), Capella University (BSN), Eastern Kentucky University (BA), and University of the Cumberlands (MA). She blends her background in brand management, communication strategy, and digital marketing with her clinical knowledge as a Registered Nurse to help promote and build awareness of the ARH Foundation for Healthier Communities and its work in Appalachia.
“Appalachia is a special place and I believe it is important to help those in the region follow their dreams and passions, realizing that anything is possible when you work hard,” says Whittney. “After all, we have some of the most talented, intelligent, and hardworking people in the world in Appalachia,” she continued.
In 2023, Whittney was named a Kentucky Colonel by Governor Andy Beshear for her service to the state, including her time spent as Miss Kentucky United States 2013.
“It is because of the wonderful women (and men) that have supported me that I have had and continue to have the opportunities that I do, so I hope that I can continue that legacy and help others do the same,” says Allen.
Whittney serves as a Morehead State University (MSU) Nursing Advisory Board Member, where she consults with representatives of the department, collegeand University for the development and operation of nursing programs at MSU.
“Through ARH and the ARH Foundation, I am blessed to grow professionally and personally, while having a front-row seat to see how ARH and the ARH Foundation invests in Appalachia each day to make sure that future generations will have their own opportunities to follow their dreams,” stated Whittney.
